Don't Let Success Get Into Your Head

Have you taken note of this alarming trend? People who seem to have had some degree of success and good fortune tend to lose their humility and become arrogant? This is very sad and unfortunate for many reasons.

First, no one really wants to be around someone who is arrogant and self-absorbed. It is boring and annoying! Arrogance simply means a lack of gratitude. The usual misguided assumption that all you are today is all about you; “am self-made”, “I did this all my by self.” Important factors like good timing, God’s grace, being fortunate, your innate strength and qualities and so on are forgotten and disregarded!

Furthermore, when you allow success to go into your head, your stress level can skyrocket and your quality of life gradually depletes. People and friends will stop to like you and eventually even you too will stop liking yourself. :(

How often we hear the story and experiences of someone who used to be a really nice person, hardworking, ethical, compassionate, thoughtful, concerned about others and blessed with a good sense of humor; yet, shortly after being promoted, making a great deal of money or succeeding at something the person immediately turns out to be a real jerk: he becomes self-absorbed, overwhelmed, greedy, hard to please and demanding.

Sometimes it is ironic, someone finally gets what he or she has always wanted: success-yet they are not satisfied.

In fact, he often becomes difficult and paranoid. People seem to always let him down and nothing is good enough anymore: he needs to change his house, his car; his cloths, he now develops a short temper, his perspective is lost, greed sets in and more is often better.

People who use to love him and hang around him can’t longer stand him anymore. In fact people seem to hope that his good fortune will fail. Obsessive busyness and lack of time takes over. Someone who was happy and easy to please now becomes impossible to please.

I've seen and read about many celebrities, athletes, politicians and business people who have done really well: their talent, timing, hard work and Gods favor and all of the rest just came in at the right time.

Yet rather than been grateful and having the right sense of direction they act like, life isn't fair or they act as if they are better and important than others which is exactly the opposite of the way they should behave.

Sometimes it is amazing and alarming: people who are in lofty positions in the society: role models, mentors, instructors, teachers, public figures and even pastors who now seem hard to please!  Who regularly send food back at restaurants; complain constantly about service of a company, act rudely and harshly even brutal to staffs, drivers and waitresses and so forth. :(

The question now is; “why will anyone want to act like that?” to be constantly disappointed and bothered by things is just another way of saying that you don’t have a sense of calm and little things seems to make you lose your cool. The problem is; what example are you portraying?

So weather you've already made your fortune or still working on it, try to see the silliness and ridiculousness behind letting any type of success go to your head. Even if you've done that lately, it’s never too late to change your ways.

Yes, you can have it all: tremendous success, good fortune, and a lifetime full of abundance and still be a thoughtful, kind and generous person. Remember that success is not only with money; success means all! I guess you will be a fulfilled and more joyful person when you succeed in every area and aspect of your life! :)
