Justin Bieber is Billboard’s Male Artiste of the Year

Justin Bieber dropped the ‘Purpose’ album this year after a hiatus of more than three years (his last album Believe was released 2102) topping Billboard 200 for the year 2016.

This fete earned ‘the crush of almost all American teenage girls’ his first three No. 1 songs on the Hot 100 with Sorry and Love Yourself (co-written by Ed Sheeran).

The two infectious song makes Bieber the third artist to hit the global music chart’s year-end top two songs in its 58 years of existence. The only other artiste’s to have done that was Bieber’s mentor Usher with ‘Burn’ and ‘Yeah’ (featuring Lil Jon & Ludacris) in 2004 and The Beatles with ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ and ‘She Loves You in 1964’.

According to Billboard, Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself and Sorry may have logged relatively brief visits to the No. 1 slot, their lengthy runs inside the top 10 helped cement their year-end status: “Love Yourself” ranked in the top 10 for 24 weeks (only 18 songs have managed a run at least that long in the chart’s history), while “Sorry” scored 21 weeks in the region”.
