The reason why am writing this article is to inform business owners and those aspiring to own a business the enormous opportunity in taking their business on the Internet.

When I did a quick case study on the success of a company like Jumia, I checked Alexia, I was startled; it’s one website that is listed at the top ten sites people in Nigeria visits, but then again Jumia to me is still a young company? It is not necessary how long but how well…

So how come was she able to garner such power within such a period of time? I simply believe is by leveraging on the power of the internet. Jumia, I believe is doing better than her competitors like Konga, kaymu and the likes. By offering a better and a faster service and do seasonal promos. But what is more important is the overall growth of these new dotcom companies.

With careful study of these companies what should be coming to your mind is how to tap into this huge market these companies have tapped into. Or don’t you want to be part of this big opportunity? The secret of their success is open: we can sell to more people all around when we position our self on the Internet.

One of the” leverage” these companies used is the social media. Social media like facebook have found a way of keeping people on their sites for as long as possible, not to surprise you that most people live and eat on facebook. Facebook is now a lifestyle. 

So what these companies did was to place their advert of their products and service on the social media, it will surprise you that these companies make more of their sales on the social media.

 Another thing that really gave Jumia a boost is their service- where you pay on delivery. They found out some Nigerians are not “tech savvy” or some are scared to pay with their card online due to complications or security issues. So they invented something that people can order while the products and be delivered to their homes and they can pay on delivery! Companies like Amazon are even doing bigger things; like using Drones to deliver their products to customers!

The question now is: what are you doing to make sales on the Internet since the market on the Internet is large? The reality is that we are in the dotcom boom, so this is the time to leverage on this big opportunity and take your own share out of the market.

If you are thinking of a business idea, think of how to sell on the internet, if someone can sell food on the Internet then that means you can sell almost anything!
